Behind the Scenes with Liz St. Andre
My work centers on recreating the experience of being in the forest surrounded by dappled light and tending the garden, soaking in the color and details.
Drawing inspiration from the woods surrounding her Squak Mountain studio, Liz St. Andre is a painter and printmaker, working in the mediums of cyanotypes and botanical monotypes. And for Liz, cyanotypes are best captured outside in the sunshine.
Taking advantage of the sunny Spring Equinox, Liz gives us glimpse into the creative printmaking process
What’s a cyanotype?
Also known as a sun print, the cyanotype is one of the earliest forms of photography. The distinct cyan blue tones emerge when iron salts react to the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
Liz’s advice for creative entrepreneurs?
“Don’t underplay the importance of what you do. Bringing beauty into the world is a worthwhile endeavor.”
You can find Liz’s work at Venue Gallery in Ballard, Queen Anne Frame & Gift, and Columbia City Gallery in Seattle.
